And I find it kinda funny

I find it kinda sad

The dreams in which I'm dying

Are the best I've ever had

Went to see Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo (click, but homophobes beware) tonight with my brother. It was amazing. Amazingly funny! Too bad they're only here until the 11th. I would love to watch it again, but the tickets cost a bomb. The tickets I got for my brother and I were $77 each. And we were sitting hiiiigh up in Circle 2.

The view was not too bad from where we were sitting too, really. You get to see the entire stage as compared to those along the sides. Some people thought, "Oh, I'm sitting AT the side, I should be able to see everything! And it costs $15 too!" Too bad they can't see half the stage.

They made parodies of Le Lac Des Cygnes (otherwise known as Swan Lake, by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky), and there was this cuuuute guy that kept on making himself so obviously noticed. There was also this little solo performance called "The Dying Swan", choreographed to the music "Le Cygne" written by Camille Saint-Saens. That was the most hilarious part of the show. Fokine had little notion when he created this solo for Anna Pavlova in 1905 that it would become, in later years, her signature dance, and perhaps the most famous solo in ballet. But the Trocks' version was sooo different.

It starts off with the spot light focusing on one point on an empty stage. It moves from point to point, trying to determine where the soloist would enter. Turned out (s)he enters from where the spotlight was initially. That cracked some up. But the funniest part was that as (s)he was dancing, feathers started fluttering out from h(er)is tu-tu. Throughout the dance, feathers flew, even as (s)he did, legs shivering, head-pecking.. hehe.. (S)He tries desperately to stuff some feathers back, but eventually dies. And the curtain calls were funny too. Ah man, just thinking about it makes me want to laugh as hard as I did in the theater along with the few hundred other people.

Some people say that anyone who knows ballet can poke fun at it, the way The Trocks do. I digress. I admit they are not as synchronised or as neat as the real thing, but they -are- the real thing, just packaged differently. They know their stuff, that's for sure. You think someone who barely knows... let's say.. the guitar, can come up with tunes that contradict and play around with the actual tune? No way!

You just have to know your stuff.

I don't know my stuff.

Uhm.

What stuff...? Hm..

I gotta watch more performances like these. I had wanted to catch "The Merry Widow", but I'm broke, as I wanted to watch "The Trocks" more. If Oliver! ever returns, I'm catching it. Again. Cats can screw it. Joseph and The Technicolor Dreamcoat, I'll consider. Oh gods, if Die Fledermaus comes... I'm so going to watch that.

Looks like I need an "Opera kaki".
Hard to find, lah.

To whoever you are, wherever you are, I love you. I probably don't know you yet, but when I do, I'll know, and so will you. And you'll love me for who I am, as will I.

You might be living in my neighbourhood, or some other town or country far away. I don't know. And neither do you, at this point.

Wherever you are, I know I'll find you... if you don't find me first.

It's just a matter of time.
