And I'm not saying that it's halfway through the year already, though it is. I met up with the local WoW people on Tuesday for dinner like we usually do. I went there with the intention to surprise most of them, as most of them did not know that I had come home.
So I made my way down to River Valley, where I noticed Matthew sitting in the darkness, the first one to arrive. I slowly approached him, thinking of pouncing behind him but he noticed me. And when he saw me, he threw his bag aside, yelled, "Ohmygodohmygodohmygod!" and proceeded to give me a big hug. (I love hugs!) One by one, the guys started to gather. Eric, Ace, some guys I don't know/well, Kelry, and then Lex. Most of them gave me hugs. They're really sweet, I swear. :D
Sitting next to Matt was interesting. He's quiet among people he doesn't know, but really chatty with people he's known for a while, like Ace and myself.
A little flashback. It's 1999, I first started gaming seriously. I met Ace and Matt in NetGames then, playing Counter-Strike and Half-Life Deathmatch. Matt was only eleven then. ELEVEN! Thinking back, he's eighteen now. Back then, he used to be shorter than me, then all of a sudden they're all grown up. It's kinda odd. I mean, he's even started asking me questions about what girls are like.
So I went to have lunch with him at SP this afternoon for the lack of something to do, and to catch up with him, as I haven't seen him in a long while. I ended up accompanying him to his dance practice. I was just watching him when a wave of nostalgia came over me and all I could see for a few moments was a reserved, shy little eleven-year-old practicing his moves on the dance floor, and slowly breaking out of his shell.
When we left, I playfully ruffled his hair and said, "You (and Redsteel) will always be my little boy(s)." He just grinned at me like he always does.
Time really does fly.
