Karl has started his day-long journey home towards Boise, Idaho. We had to get up early in the morning at 4am to get to the airport checkpoint. To our dismay, the lines were long and people were cramped everywhere. But we joined the queue anyway, and he was eventually allowed to go to the First/Business Class counter for check-in.

The past week has been busy. Extremely tiring, and draining. I reached the airport early, hoping his flight wasn't delayed (it was) and ended up playing Metroid Pinball until his flight arrived, slipping in a cigarette here and there.

People started to crowd around the arrival gate, so I did the same (typical Singaporean), peering through the glass panes to see if I could spot him. People started pouring out of the gate towards the baggage claim, and then I spotted him. He looked so old, I thought it was just the stress from the flight, before I realized that his mustache helped with the ageing process.

With a quick (hairy) kiss, we made our way to the hotel where we were going to spend the week. I mentioned how the mustache made him look 40.. so he took it off and he looks 15 years younger. Awesome. Hehehe.

So I was getting ready for bed and I turned around to grab my phone and set the alarm when I saw him on one knee, in front of me, with a shy look on his face, ring in hand and he said the words I had waited 10 months to hear in person, "Will you marry me?" I nearly cried as he put the ring on my finger.

One of his purposes here was to meet my parents, and earn their approval in a way. He received a gold star, apparently. I love a man who loves his food, and Karl was a real trooper, trying everything once even if he didn't really like it all that much. Which amuses me. From sea cucumber to fishballs, he tried as much as we'd feed him.

Exotic foods however, can have an adverse reaction on a person who is not used to eating stuff like that on a regular basis. I introduced him to curry noodles and in turn, it introduced him to severe indigestion several hours later. It made me worry about him because he started hacking and throwing up, but was okay as soon as the chili oil was out of his system.

We went to Sentosa (Cable-Car, go!), Bugis, Orchard, and some other places, and he snapped away at his instamatic camera. So tourist-y. At least he's Foreigner +1, as I had lent him my dad's transportation card and we went everywhere by bus or train.

The ring on my finger is a funny subject though. I mentioned how he proposed.. but I was shy to tell my friends about the ring or even show it to them, but he went ahead and shoved my arm into their faces so there's no way they couldn't see it. Almost like saying, "Here. This is MY ring on HER finger. Whoever dares say I'm not serious will get a slap in the face with Perlin's arm." So cute.

Last night we sat down with my parents and had a serious talk about where we were going in our relationship, and when we would like to set the wedding. So we've tentatively set it in mid-June (OMG Summer) in Boise, Idaho. Now I can't wait to tell almost everyone that I'm getting married to a man I met in World of Warcraft. I'm just patiently waiting for his plane to land in LA so I can speak to him for a bit before going to bed. I miss the guy already.

Katie was right. Having this ring on my finger kinda changes my perspective on nearly everything.

I dug out my old external harddrive and found my Neverwinter Nights music haks that I used to use for the Myth Drannor server way back when.

As I was scrolling through the songs, I felt a sense of peace, like I had left something behind and turned the pages to continue the story of my life. It brought back memories both good and bad, and I thought about the friends (and quite possibly, enemies) I made during my stay in that server.

Good music, though.

Karl's coming!

In about... 1 day and 23 hours. Excited? Of course! :)

Either way, Happy Valentine's Day to everyone. Because I believe that Valentine's Day isn't just for lovers, no thanks to Hallmark.

To all my friends, and to all those who were my friends at one point, happy Valentine's Day.

I love you ALL.

I would looooove to keep writing about my experience in Shanghai and the Jiangnan area, but honestly... I don't have the time.

To cut things short, I will tell all later... But here are some of the photos I took. :)

Suzhou
Hangzhou
Nanjing
Wuxi
Shanghai Pt. 2

I know everything's a little dull, but it's wintertime and everything was gray and foggy.

Would appreciate some constructive comments though :)

I'm finally back from China!

Well, actually, I've been back for about a week now, I just haven't gotten around to uploading the pictures or updating my journal.

All in all, it was a pleasant experience. I've met people I'm thankful I have, made some new friends, and seen things and understood things I never knew before. An eye-opener? Most definitely. But I wouldn't go there on a package tour again if I had a choice.

I took some pictures, but I'd like to warn you; graphic intensiveness ensues.

DAY ONE: SHANGHAI PUDONG

China Eastern Airline food. Ew.

This was the fish and rice meal my mom and I had on China Eastern Airways.. It was bland, soggy and UGH.

Maglev

Maglev Train in Shanghai. We headed to the station (just a few minutes worth of walking) almost immediately after landing in Shanghai Pudong International Airport. It can go up to 430km/h! Scary. You see trees and buildings just whizzing by. Maglev means Magnetic Levitation. Honestly, I was paying attention to the tour guide giving the explanation on this Maglev train, but after 8 days, it was all lost on me. I'm such a n00b when it comes to the lack of technology..

Mommy!

Mommy just before boarding the train. :)

Long train...

Super long train... It's even longer than the MRT line. The seats are quite comfortable too.
See the little "0km/h" thing up there? It updates as it runs.

431kmh

See what I mean by updating?
This was the highest number I could catch. I believe it WAS the highest speed.

Maglev

Exiting the train. Some of us felt queasy, and I believe one even threw up in the bin.

Station

My uncle (mom's sister's husband) and Mommy standing in front of the Longyang Rd station map.
Where's Longyang? No clue. I was there for the photographic opportunity. ;)

Ningpo Tangyuan Dian

We took a bus to Cheng Huang Miao or the City God Temple. It's not a temple at all, more like a shopping district. The buildings look like a temple's, though. Got a pretty nice teacup for cheap over here.
That's Ningpo Tangyuan Dian or Ningpo Soupball Shop in the picture. Tangyuans are actually a hot dessert, like little glutinous rice dumplings with nut or bean paste stuffing (I think there are lotus paste ones too), boiled and served in a sweet soup. It's actually quite tasty.

Dairy Queen?!

Dairy Queen?! In SHANGHAI?! I thought Chinese had hereditary lactose intolerance. :P
This was also found in the City God Temple. Pardon the shaky hand; it was cold and my hands were shivering; I was a genius to have my gloves stashed in my check-in luggage.

Starbucks

I just had to take a picture of Starbucks in such a building setting. It's beautiful. So... oriental.
Well duh, I was in China. *smacks forehead*
I had the chance later to have a nice warm drink in there. When temperatures dip to 0ºC (32ºF), frappucinos are NOT an option.

I'll upload the rest later on separate posts so as not to overwhelm.

Back from China!

Photos are to come.

Yay!

To whoever you are, wherever you are, I love you. I probably don't know you yet, but when I do, I'll know, and so will you. And you'll love me for who I am, as will I.

You might be living in my neighbourhood, or some other town or country far away. I don't know. And neither do you, at this point.

Wherever you are, I know I'll find you... if you don't find me first.

It's just a matter of time.
